COLOR: Male and female adults have a blackish-brown back and chest, a white head, neck and tail, and yellow feet and bill. They get their white head feathers when they are 4 or 5 years old.
NUMBER OF FEATHERS: Adults have about 7,000 feathers. Eagles molt (shed their feathers in patches, starting with their head and working downward.
