With such a variety of game animals – big game, , small game, furbearers, game birds and waterfowl – it’s no surprise that Michigan ranks third in the nation in the number of people who hunt. Michigan has been called a hunters’ and trappers paradise
Why Hunt?
While the ultimate goal in hunting is to get the prey for food or sport, there are many other reasons that people hunt:
Family Tradition: a custom that is passed down from one generation to the next
– Heritage: a connection to pioneers and native people
who lived here betore us
– Nature: a way to understand wildlife and its habitat
Peace: the stillness and quiet of the forest or the lake
– Challenge: gaining new skill and knowledge
– Resource Management: maintaining the health of our wildlife populations for now and the future
CLOSE TO YOU
One of the big differences between bowhunting and firearm hunting is range.
A bow is a short-range hunting tool, while a firearm gives you a longer range.
Unlike a firearm hunter, a bowhunter has to be close to the prey.
