The Kirtland’s warbler was in trouble. We had become so good at preventing and stopping fires, that jack pine forests were growing old. The young jack pine stands that the Kirtland’s warbler lives in were disappearing.
The state and federal governments began managing the jack pine forests to make sure the Kirtland’s warbler has the habitat it needs.
Through clearcutting, prescribed fire, replanting and reseeding, the Kirtland’s warbler now has places it can call home.
