Certified Forests

Michigan’s state forests are certified, which means they are taken care of by experts who work to make sure the forests are used in ways that protect the environment, help society, and benefit our economy. By making wise choices, we can make sure that we have healthy forests for today and future generations.

About 1,664 pounds of wood will meet the needs of an average person annually for building supplies, newsprint, copy paper, tissue, paper towels, product packaging and mail.
There are also hundreds of products you might not think contain wood fiber like toothpaste, football helmets, scotch tape and milk shakes.

Trees are “renewable resources,” which means as we harvest trees, we can grow more. One acre of forest can supply wood products for 250 people. Michigan is home to more than 20 million acres of forests that create about 77,000 jobs, which makes forests an important part of the economy.
